Understanding Results & Giftedness

What IQ score is considered "gifted"?

Generally, an IQ of 130 or above (top 2% of the population) is considered gifted. However, giftedness is more complex than a single number and can include:

  • Exceptionally Gifted: 145+ (top 0.1%)
  • Gifted: 130-144 (top 2.2%)
  • High ability can also be shown through specific cognitive strengths even if overall IQ is lower
Can creativity be measured objectively?

Yes, creativity can be measured using scientifically validated tools like the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). These assessments evaluate:

  • Fluency: How many ideas you can generate
  • Originality: How unique your ideas are
  • Flexibility: Your ability to shift between different types of thinking
  • Elaboration: How well you develop and detail your ideas
My child is bright but struggling in school. Can testing help?

Absolutely. Testing can identify:

  • Giftedness that may be masked by learning difficulties (twice-exceptional students)
  • Specific cognitive strengths and weaknesses
  • Processing speed or working memory issues
  • Recommendations for appropriate educational support
  • Whether your child needs more challenge or different teaching approaches
What is "twice-exceptional" or "2e"?

Twice-exceptional refers to students who are both gifted and have a learning difference (such as ADHD, dyslexia, or autism). These students often have spiky profiles showing both significant strengths and challenges. Our assessments can help identify these patterns and recommend appropriate support strategies.

Assessment Process & Logistics

How long does an IQ assessment take?

A complete WISC-V assessment typically takes around 1.5 – 2 hours (depending on the individual). Briefly:

  • Testing session (90 – 120 minutes)
  • Comprehensive written report provided within 1 to 2 weeks
How should I prepare my child for testing?
  • Ensure your child has had adequate sleep and a good meal before testing
  • Explain that this is not a school test – there are no “right” or “wrong” answers
  • Reassure them that the activities are designed to be interesting and challenging
  • Arrive a few minutes early to allow time to settle in
  • No special studying or preparation is needed
What happens during a creativity assessment?

Creativity testing involves fun, engaging activities that might include:

  • Drawing or completing pictures (Figural Creative Thinking)
  • Word-based creative thinking tasks (Verbal Creative Thinking)
  • A warm-up activity to help you feel comfortable
  • No artistic skill or special knowledge is required
Do you provide recommendations after testing?

Yes, every assessment includes a comprehensive written report with:

  • Educational recommendations
  • Suggestions for enrichment or support
  • Follow-up consultation available if needed

Special Programs

What is the Mind-Path Brain Stretcher programme?

The Brain Stretcher is designed for young children (typically ages 3 – 6) to develop foundational thinking skills through:

  • Play-based learning activities
  • Critical thinking exercises appropriate for young minds
  • Creative problem-solving challenges
  • Activities to enhance memory, attention, and reasoning
  • No worksheets – all learning is hands-on and interactive
Do you work with very young children?
  • Yes, we work with children as young as 3 years old through the Brain Stretcher programme. For formal IQ testing, the WISC-V is appropriate for children ages 6 – 16. We can provide developmental guidance and recommendations for younger children based on observation and informal assessment.

Getting Started

I'm not sure what type of assessment my child needs. Can you help?

Absolutely! We offer initial email consultations to discuss your concerns and goals. Dr. Sandhu can help determine which assessments would be most beneficial based on your child’s specific situation and your family’s needs.

Can adults take these assessments?
  • While our primary focus is on children and adolescents, we can discuss options for adult creativity assessment. Our creativity tests can be used with adults, and we offer workshops suitable for adult learners in corporate and educational settings.
