Positive Psychology Seminars/Workshops

As one of the newest branches of psychology to emerge, Positive Psychology is the scientific study of the pursuit of happiness that includes strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive. It is founded on the belief that people in general want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives; to cultivate what is best within themselves; and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play. This shows the importance of positive psychology for everyone to lead a more meaningful life. 


There are 3 main areas of concern in positive psychology:

1. Positive emotions

  • study of contentment with the past, happiness in the present, and hope for the future.

2. Positive individual traits

  • study of strengths and virtues, such as the capacity for love and work, courage, compassion, resilience, creativity, curiosity, integrity, self-knowledge, moderation, self-control, and wisdom

3. Positive institutions 

  • study of the strengths that foster better communities, such as justice, responsibility, civility, parenting, nurturance, work ethic, leadership, teamwork, purpose, and tolerance.

Some major topics in positive psychology include Some of the major topics of interest in positive psychology include happiness, optimism and helplessness, mindfulness, flow, character strengths and virtues, hope, positive thinking, resilience etc. Simply put, positive psychology focuses on how to help human beings prosper and lead healthier, happier lives.  



Some of the seminars/workshops offered are described below:

Workshop 1: The Scientific Pursuit of Happiness: Happiness 101 - How to be Happy and Influence Others? (Suitable For Any Group Of Audience)

This introductory workshop will attempt to introduce the Positive Psychology approach and provide participants with an overview of the “hottest” area of research and development in the field of psychology today. It is an opportunity to focus on what would make life worth living and meaningful and apply it to everything in our lives. Attention is given to how individuals flourish and reach their highest potential in all areas of human life. Putting scientific method behind the promotion of happiness, cultivation of strengths and flourishing of people, positive psychology points us towards a more satisfying way of life. 

Together with proven practical strategies we can use ourselves and pass on to our students, it is expected that participants, as teachers, would be inspired to seek the highest level of happiness and fulfilment and in turn apply it to their students. Teachers who apply positive psychology will have the unique opportunity to teach students how to have more pleasure, flow, and meaning in life.


The aims of this workshop is:


• To introduce the concept of Positive Psychology and its application at a conscious level
• To improve the level of knowledge and understanding of Positive Psychology among teachers
• To incorporate Positive Psychology practices into participants’ personal and professional life
• To integrate the techniques learnt and identify personal areas of potential improvement
• To gain insight on practical strategies to be happier and more effective
• To apply skills and techniques learnt in the classroom
• Spread positivity all around to enhance happiness in the environment


This workshop can be specifically customised for teachers (including non-academic staff members in schools), lecturers in higher learning institutions, students (middle school to college level) and the corporate sector.

Workshop 2: Confidence: The Secrets of Excelling in Life (For Students)
Teenagers today face a number of challenges and in the process, they may get caught up and allow negative thoughts to rule them. This inhibits success and quality of work, which in turn blocks the journey to excellence in life.
Striving for excellence means doing one’s best to achieve the requirements of the task, resulting in satisfaction and pride in work. However, easier said than done, achieving those ideal goals can be a challenge due to outside forces and often one’s own destructive attitudes.Hence, the purpose of this workshop is to encourage students to overcome the challenges and to help make a start at improving their personal excellence. In short, this motivational workshop is especially designed for individuals who want to excel in life.

This workshop aims to:

• Boost students’ confidence, self-esteem and self-worth
• Improve how others view them
• Incorporate Positive Psychology practices into participants’ personal lives
• Gain insight on practical strategies to be happier and more effective which will ultimately help boost confidence



Seminar 1: Positive Teaching: Happy Teachers Happy Students

On being an effective teacher, positivity counts. A positive teacher would produce positive students. Using positive psychology in teaching turns the concept of self-esteem inside out replacing it with attention to the importance of self-care, self-kindness, and self-regulation as the means to authentic happiness in all situations. This science proposes that teachers can teach their students to find their own happy environment.  Therefore, with positive teaching, students will learn to make make their schools and classrooms happy places for learning and ultimately; learning would happen more efficiently. After all, a happy teacher would surely give rise to happy students!

Seminar 2:  The Habits of Highly Effective Teachers (For Educators)

When you ask a student what makes her/him successful in school, you would most likely hear something like; “It was all Ms/Mr/Mdm X. She/He just never gave up on me however hard it was.” The truth is, a successful education usually centers on a personal connection with a teacher who instilled passion and inspiration for their subject. It may not be measured in grades but it is indeed lifelong learning. 

As a teacher, ask yourself: Are you reaching your students?

Why are some teachers viewed better than other? What makes a teacher highly effective? What are the characteristics we would expect to see in a successful educator? We do know that effective teachers are student-centric, holistic, great facilitators for learning and at the same time, learners as well. This seminar would present a few habits of highly effective teachers based on proven research-based evidence for successful teaching which combines positive psychology.

Seminar 3: Moving On To High School: The Start Of A New Journey (For Students) 

A motivational seminar is intended for middle school students transiting to high school. This short seminar would expose students to the realities of high school and the preparations that they would require to succeed. Real life examples of cases would be used to enhance motivation.
